abbreviated history

Until 1971, when the Kitahiroshima housing complex was being developed, there were individual activities in Kitahiroshima City (then Hiroshima Town, Sapporo County) such as JA8ADK, JA8ELE (deceased), and JA8OHG (deceased), but there were many stations wishing to communicate on each frequency, and Sapporo County was an ultra-A grade difficult-to-communicate county (JCG).
At that time, there were no unified club activities, but around this time, at the suggestion of JA8JQQ, a meeting of volunteers was held, and in 1972, it was launched as the "Kitahiroshima Ham Club", which led to the opening of JA8YOW.
Since then, the club has experienced a history of ups and downs, but during this time, past presidents have included JA8OHG, JA8OBZ (deceased), JA8EKE, JA8JNJ (deceased), JA8TLQ, JH8REZ (deceased), JH8LKQ, JE8MFG (deceased) and JA8SNA.
Members have actively engaged in interaction, and due to the need to contribute to the community using their amateur radio skills, they organized the Radio Red Cross Volunteer Corps (JA8YOV) and joined the Hokkaido Radio Red Cross Volunteer Corps Council.
Furthermore, from the time the club was founded, it has also been a member of the Japan Amateur Radio League (01D-1-7 (Ishikari Shiribeshi Branch)).
Furthermore, with the start of sister city exchanges between local governments, we were able to begin exchanges as a sister club with the Kobato Ham Club (JA4ZTY) of Higashihiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture at the time.
Furthermore, the JCG service, which is one of the club's important activities, has made the name of JA8YOW known throughout the country.
In other words, the JCG services provided by member stations are available in various rare counties, starting with Sapporo County (now Kitahiroshima City), as well as Atsuta County, Hamamasu County, Yufutsu County (Shimukappu), Furu County, Okushiri County, Rishiri County, Mitsuishi County, Usu County, Niikappu County, and Kasai County.
Mobile operation has continued for 51 years now.
One of the members is a hardy soul (JR8QBE) who travels around Japan several times a year to provide mobile service for JCC and JCG.
In addition, the group continues to contribute to the local community through annual therapeutic camps and support for social welfare events in the city.
This is all thanks to the passion of its members, JA8YOW, and for amateur radio, and we hope to see the JA8YO Kitahiroshima Ham Club continue to grow through even greater interaction between members.
